What Does the Bible Say About Contentment? Bible Verses About Contentment

74

By Charlotte B Plum

Contentment is something that is hard to achieve. When we are content, we are happy and satisfied with what God has given us. However, contentment does not mean being complacent, neither does it mean being conceited.

In this hub, I have searched for Bible Verses that talk about contentment. Most of these verses are from the NIV, New International Version. I encourage you to look up these verses in their context should you seek to understand them deeper.

BIBLE PROMISES ABOUT CONTENTMENT

Job 36:11
If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.

Proverbs 19:23
The fear of the LORD leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Proverbs 13:25
The righteous eat to their hearts’ content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.

and said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
 and naked I will depart.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised.”
Proverbs 15:15
All the days of the oppressed are wretched,
but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.

CONTENTMENT USED IN THE BIBLE

Song of Solomon 8:10
She I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers. Thus I have become in his eyes like one bringing contentment.

Ecclesiastes 4:8
There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. “For whom am I toiling,” he asked, “and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business!

Psalm 131:2
But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.

Genesis 25:27
The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.

Joshua 7:7
And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign LORD, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
